Calm (-A-like) vs stress-sensitive (-T-like) share by type

16Personalities' -A/-T suffix describes how a person reacts to stress, which closely resembles the Big Five trait emotional stability. Splitting 19,718 people at the median of that trait gives very different shares by type:

How these numbers were made

  • Country data: the Open Psychometrics IPIP-FFM dataset (1,015,341 rows, 2016–2018). We kept only answers from IP addresses with a single record and removed incomplete, too-fast and straight-lined answers, leaving 593,520 people; countries with fewer than 500 people are left out.
  • Types: each person's Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness scores are turned into four letters, exactly as the free 64 Types test does. These are Big Five based codes, not official MBTI® results, and only partly match them.
  • Who answered: volunteers on an English-language website, so each country's figures describe its test-takers, not its whole population.
  • Full method and per-country detail: the Personality Atlas and our method page.
